In the U.S., trucks are classified into eight categories based on their weight. Class 1 trucks, the lightest category, have gross vehicle weight ranges from 0 to 6,000 lbs. Examples of Class 1 trucks are the Ford Ranger and Dodge Dakota. Class 8 trucks, the heaviest category, have gross vehicle weights above 33,000 lbs. All tractor trailer trucks are included in this category.

The National Carriers’ Conference Committee announced it reached tentative labor agreements with the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen and the American Train Dispatchers Association and reached a separate agreement with the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division to extend the “cooling off” period from Dec. 6 until Feb. 8, 2012.
