Did You Know?
The Pacific Railroad Act was signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln on July 1, 1862. The act provided land grants in the western United States and the issuance of government bonds to the Union Pacific Railroad and the Central Pacific Railroad in order to construct a transcontinental railroad from Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Sacramento, California.
